Where dust builds up in Trinidad homes

Ceiling fans, louvre windows, air-conditioning filters, curtain tops and under beds collect the most. Sahara dust events between May and August make it worse, so a weekly wipe of fans and louvres and a monthly rinse of A/C filters help more than any other single habit.

A low-dust routine

• Vacuum with a machine that has a sealed HEPA filter, or damp-mop hard floors instead of sweeping
• Wash bedding weekly in hot water and air pillows in the sun
• Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth, top to bottom, finishing with the floor
• Keep windows closed on high-dust days and run the A/C with a clean filter
